Bio

Bret Schipper, MD, FACS, is chief of surgical oncology at Hartford Hospital and director of oncologic surgery for the entire Cancer Institute.

Board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Schipper’s areas of interest include: hepatobiliary surgery, both benign and malignant; minimally-invasive robotic surgery; soft tissue (melanoma/sarcoma) and gastric cancers; Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) for advanced malignancies; and complex surgical oncology.

Dr. Schipper earned his medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies. He completed an internship at the State University of New York Upstate University Medical Center. He also completed residency and a fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

He serves as assistant clinical professor in the departments of surgery at both the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and Quinnipiac University School of Medicine.
