I'd recommend her to anyone and everyone if I weren't scared of overworking her. Her plan isn't just about preventing my headaches but also has ideas about jow to handle breakthroughs and the best way to handle them. We talked about treatments and what that would entail and side effects. I'm excited about my treatment plan. It takes a lot for me to say that, but it definitely includes involving me. Which she absolutely did.

My only issue concerns is the notes I was provided after my appointment. They seem to indicate that Mary does not have a full understanding of some of my health issues. It's not a huge matter, but suggested a lack of understanding.

Bio

Mary Calnen is a nationally board-certified Physician Assistant with experience in headache diagnosis, treatment and management. She works in the Hartford Healthcare Headache Center independently as one of our advanced headache providers.

Mary graduated magna cum laude with her Bachelor of Health Sciences at University of Hartford. She then completed her Masters in Physician Assistant studies at Bay Path University. She has a background working at Hartford Hospital for four years in the surgical department. As one of our headache specialists, she delivers a patient centered approach in her comprehensive treatment plans utilizing a pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approach.

Mary is experienced in performing procedural interventions including nerve blocks, trigger point injections and Botox administration for the treatment of headache. She also participates in our monthly multidisciplinary headache council. She works to educate her colleagues by providing staff lectures on headache related topics.

Areas of clinical interest include procedural interventions for headache, chronic migraine, and cluster headache.

In her spare time, Mary enjoys volunteering with The Junior League of Hartford, trying new foods, and snuggling with her cat, Grey.
