David A. Whitehead is Senior Advisor to the CEO Cabinet at Hartford HealthCare. His previous roles included EVP and Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer for Hartford HealthCare, and Hartford HealthCare Senior Vice President and President of the East Region.

A leading healthcare executive for many years, he has successfully balanced strategy, finances, rapid-cycle change and the need to put patients first — always.

Prior to joining Hartford HealthCare, Whitehead was Backus Hospital’s President and Chief Executive Officer since 2009.

He has been very involved with a wide variety of community organizations. He has held leadership positions on the boards of the United Way, Norwich Free Academy, Three Rivers Community College, Hospice Southeastern Connecticut and he served as chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut. He was named the Eastern Connecticut Citizen of the Year in 2003.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Eastern Connecticut State University, and he holds a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration and a Master of Science in Labor Relations, both from the University of New Haven.
