Connecticut Early Detection Prevention Program
The goal of the Early Detection and Prevention Program is to provide access to cancer screening services throughout Connecticut. The primary objective of the program is to significantly increase awareness and utilization of breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screenings.

Breast and Cervical Cancer Screenings
You may qualify for free breast and cervical cancer screenings at the Cancer Institute if:
- You are at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level
- You have no health insurance* OR
- You have health insurance that excludes these routine services OR
- You have a high insurance deductible of $1,000 or more.
- You are 40-64 years old and have, or have had, breasts for breast cancer services.
- You are 21-39 years old and are at high risk and/or symptomatic.
- You are 21-64 years old and have, or have had, a cervix for cervical cancer services.
*Women 65+ who are not enrolled in Medicare Part B may be eligible to receive CBCCEDP services.
What to Expect
The program offers breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services. Breast services include breast consultations, screening and diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds, and biopsies. Cervical services include routine Pap and HPV screenings and colposcopies. High risk diagnostic services such as breast MRI’s, excisions and LEEPs require approval from.
Services covered by Early Detection Prevention Program
- Clinical Breast Exams
- Screening Mammograms
- Ages 40–64 (annual)
- Ages 35–39 eligible only if symptomatic or high-risk
- Pap Smear (Pap Test)
- Ages 21–64
- Must have cervix in place
- Every 3–5 years depending on guidelines
- HPV Testing
- Ages 30–64 (when combined with a Pap test)
Services NOT covered by Early Detection Prevention Program
Colorectal Cancer Control Program
The mission for colorectal screening is to prevent colorectal cancer and detect it early, when treatment is most effective. Increase Colorectal Cancer awareness to those in our communities and our community partners.
The program offers no-cost follow-up diagnostic colonoscopies for those eligible participants with a positive screening test. Positive screening test are Fit-Kit, Cologuard, Heme stool card.
